Default Mo/W and W/Mo differences?

I have been a way for a while and have really not played a Warrior much. I have a 20 monk and was considering changing the secondary to warrior. Alternatively, I was considering starting a W/Mo.

What are the basic differences between these two? I am most interested in which can do the most damage. After ages as a healer, I think I would like to unleash a little mayhem. Is the Mo/W doing more damage but is more squishy?

Thank you.

The Mo/W does less damage, and is more squishy. It has more energy and better healing, though.

If you're planning on stabbing things, you'd be better off as w/mo.

Thank you, NatalieD.

Is the Axe W/Mo the way to go for high damage? And if so, can someone point me to a build? I understand they do not do as well until high levels (because of Cleave or some similar skill?)

For axe warriors its good to have some kind of speed buff since basically all your attacks rely on adrenaline. but since your not using a w/r build i really dont know.

Go take a look at the builds in the "warrior basics" thread under the Campfire topics for warrior build ideas.

Personally I would recommend something other than monk as a secondary to use another profession's skillset since you are already familiar with monks. Go for either necromancer or elementalist is my advice.

Note that a smiting monk can dish out a ton of damage with zealots fire, symbol of wrath and balthazars aura so don't discount them as a damage dealing force.

Thank you for the replies.

I didn't find any W/Mo Axe builds trying to focus on damage in the builds section, DeanBB? I will check again, though.

I think the monk secondary would give me a little versatility and something familiar to add to the Warrior primary. Hopefully without sacrificing damage. Does anyone have a W/Mo Axe build link or suggestions?

There are several with sword, so just swap out the 3 sword skills and put axe in their place. Cyclone axe does area damage, is available in pre-sear and is always good.

I've played mine a number of different ways, which is a really cool thing about GW. All for PvE:

- Go with all adrenaline attacks + signets (purge signet ) and run Succor on a monk and another caster. Or Life Bond.
- Run mending and watchful spirit or another health enchantment for a durable warrior.
- Run Strength of Honor and use Judges Insight for smiting warrior.
- Ignore monk, crank up tactics to 16 and use balanced stanced + desperation blow + thrill of victory for excellent damage.

Starting with a new PvE character you pretty much have to use what you get so have the opportunity to try out new skills as they come so you don't need to figure this all out up front.

Look in this thread for more ideas/critiques:

Try something along these lines for a damage-intensive axe wa/mo:

16 axes, 10-11 in strength, rest in smiting.

Frenzy, Sprint, Penetrating Blow, Eviscerate (E), Executioner's Strike, For Great Justice, Smite Hex or Judge's Insight, Rebirth (PvE) or Res Signet (PvP).

Use frenzy when you are not taking damage, switch it off with sprint when you do begin to receive damage. FGJ to build adrenaline faster. The eviscerate/executioner's combo (in that order) is the highest damage warrior 1-2 punch there is. Smite hex to remove hexes (and deal damage), Judge's Insight as "prep" to add to armor penetration. Rebirth is super handy in PvE, useless in PvP.

If you were going to be a "tank" - ie: a damage sponge - there are other builds obviously, which would be used in PvE only. I am a big believer that even in PvE, a warrior should be doing as much damage as fast as possible, unless you were a gear tank in Sorrows or something.

For PvP, your ONLY job is to do as much damage as fast as possible, period.

Yeah, try necro for the secondary if you aren't doing monk for that. Necro has a lot of very strong spells, including life-stealing spells which heal yourself, that are cast in close range, perfect for a warrior.

I am a W/Ne L14 and I love it. I like to summon Bone Horrors. They are great diversion tools and they add to the number of my party. And the ability to steel health from the dead is a nice tool to have when I get into a heavy fight.

In PvE you are highly likely to be targeted as a warrior since you should be the first one into the battle so I do not recommend Frenzy. Monks will hate you for taking double damage all the time and thus the best armored becoming the one taking the most damage. Flurry can be used to build adrenaline and the cyclone attack as well.

Sprint has little use as well as the monsters are rarely running away from you. Some missions need it though.

Again for PvE, which I judge to be the use here, you should have a defensive stance as well for use as needed, perhaps bonnetti's for the energy regen.

I've tried playing on a W/Mo character several times now 'cause I wanted to build a runner... it's just not my thing. I always end up deleting them. Mo/W is definitely my favorite and I'm amazed with it more and more each day.
